Lynchburg Series: Devils Backbone
For the last day of our Lynchburg vacation, we decided to spend a day at a brewery. We knew Devils Backbone was nearby, so we thought we’d check it out, and could always swing by a few other breweries or wineries on the way back if we felt like it. We had never been, but knew we liked the beer since it is sold locally. We assumed it was going to be like a regular brewery… but we were wrong!
Devils Backbone Basecamp Brewpub & Meadows location in Roseland, VA was more like a resort than a regular brewery! When we drove in, we were amazed at how large the location was. When walking on site, there was a main entrance with a stage on the left, and then lots of outdoor seating, lawn games, and outdoor bars right in the middle.
There were several other buildings that surrounded the main area including a Shanty & Cigar Bar, Distillery, Brewpub with Interior seating, a Merch Shop, and an outdoor bar & grill. It was a really hot day, again, and we were pretty exhausted from all of our hiking and traveling throughout the week, so we didn’t get to check out every area Devils Backbone had to offer, but we definitely took note of everything and are looking forward to coming back for another visit!
Outside the main area, there was even a garden area and two green houses with lots of different plants and flowers growing that we stepped out to view. We were shocked at how much there was to do and see at this location, it really is so much more than just a brewery.
Needless to say, after a few beers and lunch, a stop at the gift shop, and a tasting at the distillery, we were about done for the day and ready to head back to the Airbnb for our last night of vacation.
We had a bit of time to relax, before going out to dinner at a rooftop restaurant called Skyline. It was a beautiful restaurant with beautiful views of the city. We enjoyed dinner and then took one last stroll around the downtown area. We went down by the train tacks and to take a stop at the LOVE sign. Last photo of our trip included a selfie on my trusty CanonR7. It was tricky with such a big lens, but it worked out!
The walk downtown was the perfect way to round out our week visiting Lynchburg, VA! This officially concludes the Lynchburg series. I hope you enjoyed it and have many ideas of what you might do if you find our way down in Lynchburg in the future. What stops might you want to make on your next trip?!
