Lynchburg Series: Blue Ridge Parkway
On the way back to our Airbnb from the Natural Bridge Caverns, we decided to take a little detour along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This overlook was a recommended stop in my PhotoSecrets Blue Ridge Parkway Virginia book. When we got there, a couple of older guys were enjoying the view, and left soon after we arrived. So, we had the overlook to ourselves. As you can see… it was absolutely stunning!
There were some large rocks off to the side that provided some nice natural framing and I think really adds to the view of the landscape. This was a pretty little stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Next, we decided to continue driving along the parkway and see what other overlooks we might come across and want to check out. We came across Apple Orchard Mountain Overlook next, which had some pretty nice views. There was also a sign for a short trail, so we decided to check that out… unfortunately that very quickly led us to a dead end, so we turned back around and went to the car. We’re not sure if we just didn’t follow the trail correctly, or if it doesn’t quite exist like we though it did…. either way, I recommend sticking to the official trails on the parkway, rather than this smaller one if you come across it!
Our journey down the Blue Ridge Parkway continued as we decided to head back to our Airbnb. As we got further down the parkway, we came across Peaks of Otter Lodge. I remembered reading about that in my book, and since it was on the way back, we decided to make one last stop at the lodge to check out the view of Sharp Top Mountain. This lodge was beautiful, and made me want to make a visit to stay here some time!
By this point, we were extremely exhausted and ready to settle in for the night. We continued back to the Airbnb, enjoyed a casual dinner out, and headed back home to rest and relax for the evening. With one day left on our vacation to Lynchburg, the only thing to decide was what to do for our last day… keep reading to find out where we went!
