Innovations in Flight Expo
The Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Dulles, VA hosts an annual Innovations in Flight event where you can see a lot of different planes and talk to different pilots and engineers of these various aircraft about flight innovations over the last century. My dad often volunteers at the Air and Space Museum in Washington DC, and he decided to volunteer for this event in Dulles this year. It fell on Father’s Day weekend, so my whole family went. I thought this would be a great opportunity to test out my brand new Canon R7 and see what kind of shots I might be able to get for the day.
I don’t know much about aircraft… at all. I mostly attended because my father, husband, and father-in-law all have an interest in physics and all the scientific and engineering aspects that go along with planes. A lot of that is over my head, so I won’t pretend like I know anything about the planes we saw, but they did look pretty cool!
There were also a lot of interesting people and conversations going on. Everyone was excited to be there, and it seemed like an all-around fun family event. I loved seeing the pilots and service people in their gear and connecting with the community.
After the event ended, we went up into the observation tower to check out a few planes leaving the event and coming into the Dulles Airport, and after that called it a day. It was an overall interesting event and definitely has me curious to check out the rest of the museum inside, which we didn’t get to spend too much time doing. A return trip will certainly be in order.
